KYOCERA Chemical Corporation Announces Innovative Concept FPC Materials
May 31, 2004

KYOCERA Chemical Corporation (KCC) introduced new Flexible Printed Circuit (FPC) materials at the JPCA exhibition 2004.
The new FPC materials, called "Super-series", have been developed for improvement of FPC properties and cost reduction that make them suitable for such applications as digital consumer electronics and compact mobile devices.

[ Points of Development and Lineup ]
The "Super-series" lineup contains four types of products as listed below, three of which were developed as FPC materials without Polyimide film.
This revolutionary approach is aimed at avoiding the negative impact that Polyimide film has on FPC production capacity. With our "Super-series", production capacity will not be affected by the fluctuations in the Polyimide film market.
All materials are halogen/antimony free as environmentally-conscious products, and each material has excellent characteristic.

Products Configuration
Super Bonding Sheet Epoxy Resin Adhesive Sheet (Glass Cloth inside)
Super Thin FCCL/Coverlay Aramid Base Film FCCL/Coverlay
Super FCCL Glass Cloth Base Film FCCL
Super Stiffener Sheet Glass Cloth Base Film + Polyimide Film

[ Super Bonding Sheet ]
We have launched our Super Bonding Sheet as an interlayer bonding sheet for multilayer FPC or flex-rigid printed circuit. It has excellent handling ability, dimensional stability and powder dust free in punching process. These properties contribute to improve yield ratio and to reduce the customer's process by 15%. Our dust-free cutting edge was realized by our special method using glass cloth and difficult-to-tuck epoxy resin.

[ Super Thin FCCL/Coverlay ]
Our Super Thin FCCL/Coverlay has excellent flexural endurance. These thin and light-weight FPC materials are suitable for multilayer FPC for HDD, pickup parts at DVD player, thin connector, digital camera and cell phone. The most remarkable feature is our special method of coating and laminating on the 4µm thickness film.

[ Super FCCL ]
Our Super FCCL is designed for LCD or camera module applications. Dimensional stability is more than 5 times that of the normal model and twice as good as the high precision model. (The normal FCCL model has weak points such as dimensional instability caused by heating or moisture absorption.) This is structured by copper foil and flexible epoxy resin on special treated glass cloth.

[ Super Stiffener Sheet ]
Our Super Stiffener Sheet was developed as an alternative to Polyimide film, and it has 2 functional capabilities of "adhesive" and "stiffener". It is expected that Polyimide film will be in short supply in the near future. The Super Stiffener Sheet enables customer' s cost reduction by eliminating powder dust during the punching process, and by eliminating the laminate process of base film and adhesive sheet. Other benefits are steady supply and easiness of switching from a current model as first surface is covered by Polyimide.

<Sales forecast>
Products 2004 2005
Super Bonding Sheet 300 3,000
Super Thin FCCL/Coverlay 60 1,000
