Improved Strength of Thinner Thickness Technology for Magnesium Case Products
October 10, 2004

KYOCERA Chemical Corporation will boost the technology (Casting Technology/Development of Toughness Material) for thinner thickness magnesium molded products to meet products trend seeking smaller and lighter in digital camera and personal computer (PC) market.

Magnesium products are applied for body or case of PC and digital cameras since it is lighter than Aluminum or Iron and it has good shielding property compared with plastic products with plating. Also it has very special properties like vibration absorption and good texture.

We enabled thinner magnesium products by development of case molding technology based on casting method. Within next year, we will realize 0.6mm thickness from 0.8mm at A4 size PC, also 0.5mm from 0.65mm at B5 size PC.

We are also developing Fine Particle Technology achieving 400Mpa tension strength from 280Mpa of Magnesium Alloy "AZ91D (Mixing Aluminum 9%, Zinc 1%) through co development with University.
